Women’s Memorial March
Details:

The February 14th Annual Women’s Memorial March honours the memory of all women from the Downtown Eastside who have died due to physical, mental, emotional and spiritual violence. Every year the list of women going missing increases. Over 3000 women are known to have gone missing or been murdered in Canada since the 1970s. Now in its 28th year, the march brings courage and commitment to end the violence that vulnerable women in the Downtown Eastside face on a daily basis and is an opportunity to come together to grieve the loss of our sisters, remember the women who are still missing, and dedicate ourselves to justice.

International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
Details:

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on 21 March. On that day, in 1960, police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville, South Africa, against the apartheid “pass laws”. Racial and ethnic discrimination occur on a daily basis, hindering progress for millions of people around the world. Racism and intolerance can take various forms — from denying individuals the basic principles of equality to fuelling ethnic hatred that may lead to genocide — all of which can destroy lives and fracture communities. Click here to learn more about this important issue.
