One More Reason Grid ‘B’ Has Got To Go…

The union has filed a grievance on behalf of two Junior Clerks from Save-On #932 in Kelowna after Overwaitea management refused to make them full-time, despite the fact the two members had exceeded all the necessary requirements.

The two Junior Clerks, who were the most senior Grid ‘B’ staff, had already moved up from Grid ‘B’ to Grid ‘A’. However, despite the fact they have been steadily working 40 hours per week for more than enough time to make them eligible for ATOs and full-time status, Overwaitea management refuses to do so.

“There is no good reason whatsoever for Overwaitea to keep these members at part time status with no ATOs.”

The union stepped in to file a “group” grievance on their behalf for Save-On #932.

“There is no good reason whatsoever for Overwaitea to keep these members at part time status with no ATOs,” said Frank Pozzobon, Secretary-Treasurer of UFCW 1518. “They had enough weeks of working 40 hours to be full time, and they should have triggered full time vacancies that should have been posted by the employer. For reasons known only to Overwaitea, they refused to have these Grid A positions posted as full-time vacancies.”

“This is another good reason that Grid ‘B’ has got to go and be replaced with a single grid system that is transparent, and will prevent Overwaitea management from jerking around members like this who have done nothing but work loyally for the company.”
