UFCW 1518 has recovered over $13,000 in outstanding overtime wages for several members at the Olivieri Plant in Delta.
Members at the Plant noticed they were missing overtime pay from their cheques and reported it to their Shop Stewards and Union Representative. The union began an investigation into this matter, and found that while $13,000 was owed in overtime to many members.
After several discussions between the union and the company, an agreement was reached that members who were missing overtime pay would be paid over $13,000 owed by the company.
“Putting the money back into the pockets of the members is a collective effort, and it is the solidarity and unity of these members and the union that makes that happen,” says UFCW 1518 President Ivan Limpright.
“Its important that all members are in constant communication with your Shop Stewards and Union Representative,” says Limpright. “If you are missing overtime pay, or have any other issues or concerns, please be sure to contact your Shop Steward and Union Representative immediately. The faster these issues are reported, the quicker they can be resolved, and we can continue to see success for our members like we did in this case.”
Buy-Low Warehouse Members, November 2007The union has received several proposals from members employed with Buy-Low Warehouse. The existing contract will expire on May 17 2008; however, the proposals are currently being reviewed and will be voted on by members within the next few weeks.
“This round of negotiations is very important and there are a lot of critical issues that need to be addressed,” says Limpright. “The conditions in the BC economy have changed drastically since the existing contract was signed 8 years ago. The cost of living has gone up substantially, and these members deserve to make a living wage and have a good quality of life, and that means getting wage increases, reasonable workloads and respect from management.”
When dates for the proposal ratification have been set, they will be posted online at www.ufcw1518.com. For any questions about negotiations, or any other union issues, please contact your Shop Steward and/or Union Representative.
Union members employed with L-250 Holdings and J&L Meats are preparing for negotiations, with the contract expiring at the end of August.
Union members are taking an active role in this round of negotiations. In a recent meeting, over 85% of the membership showed up to voice their opinion on what they want to see in a new contract.
“We are pleased to see these members taking an active role in preparing for an important round of negotiations,” says UFCW 1518 President Ivan Limpright. “With the efforts and involvement of everyone we can get a contract the members deserve.”
Members will be asked to nominate a Union Negotiating Committee to represent the membership at the bargaining table within the next few weeks. If you have any questions, please contact your Union Representative.
