WAL-MART NAILED WITH $35M SETTLEMENT IN U.S.
July 30, 2009
After an eight-year class action lawsuit, Wal-Mart has agreed to pay $35 million to 88,000 Wal-Mart workers in Washington State.
The lawsuit began when three workers sued the company arguing that Wal-Mart had made them work longer hours and denied them lunch and rest breaks.
Also, Wal-Mart has to pay an additional $10.5 million to the plaintiffs' lawyers to cover their fees and must give $10,000 to each of the three workers who initiated the lawsuit.
Others will get between $50 to $950 depending on the length of time they've worked for the company and the amount of detail they can give regarding the violations.
According to the settlement, Wal-Mart must stop wage and hour violations in future.
