Free speech momentum keeps building

September 04, 2009

The campaign to stop Walmart, the world's largest corporation, from seriously undermining the ability of UFCW Canada and other labour organizations to effectively communicate with workers continues to build momentum as it enters its sixth week of mobilization.

The www.walmartworkerscanada.ca/freespeech campaign's latest action -- the Were you on the news?! interactive chain letter is rapidly moving through the World Wide Web and raising awareness about Walmart's request for an injunction against www.walmartworkerscanada.ca, a website dedicated to helping Walmart "associates" understand and exercise their rights as workers.

Activists and supporters can participate in the Were you on the news?! campaign, and make a real difference in the effort to protect freedom of speech, by visiting www.walmartworkerscanada.ca/wanted and taking 20 seconds to pull a good-hearted prank on family and friends.

The www.walmartworkerscanada.ca/freespeech campaign's "Injunction Blog" -- updated regularly by freedom of speech activist Mike -- is also driving a larger number of supporters to the Walmart Workers Canada website.

Published at least twice a week, the Injunction Blog takes a lighthearted look, and sometimes pokes fun, at Walmart's response to the campaign as well as other labour rights and freedom of speech issues.

Mike and other free speech activists will be out in full force a week from now on Labour Day, handing out leaflets to inform as many people as possible about the campaign. Friends and supporters can download a copy of the Labour Day leaflet at www.walmartworkerscanada.ca/freespeech and are encouraged to distribute them widely at parades, picnics, and other festivities in their communities.
