No settlement yet in Community Social Service negotiations

January 21, 2010

The union has learned that inaccurate information about negotiations was distributed by the employer, Community Social Services Employers Association, (CSSEA) to a number of agencies.

The employer’s bulletin contains an inaccurate description of the point the unions’ Community Social Services Bargaining Association has reached in the bargaining process. CSSEA has apologized for the disruption their action has caused.

CSSEA has made some corrections in their bulletin and placed it on the CSSEA website. They've acknowledged it is inappropriate for employers to discuss CSSEA bulletins with staff in agencies.

To avoid any ongoing confusion among members let us clarify in this bulletin the state of bargaining. There is no tentative settlement. The parties have reached an agreement in principle on a number of items. This package will be reviewed by the unions in the CSS Bargaining Association and the CSS Bargaining Council.

If these groups are able to endorse the package then, and only then will we have what could be called a tentative settlement to bring forward to the members who will then have the opportunity to vote on it.
