Safeway PeopleSoft mess shows management’s priorities
January 26, 2010
The disaster known as Safeway’s PeopleSoft payroll program has seen the company make a mess of Safeway members’ payroll records. As reported earlier, the PeopleSoft issue will go before an experienced arbitrator on February 17.
After nearly 6 months of continually fouling up Safeway member’s payroll records and unnecessarily complicating their lives, it would be reasonable to think that Safeway senior management would be focused on correcting that problem.
Instead, the union is receiving reports that indicate management is losing confidence in the company’s ability to solve the problems they have created.
Members are reporting that when they go to see their managers about problems with their payroll records, management tells them they may as well just report it to the union – the clear implication being that Safeway senior management has given no indication they are capable of addressing the problems for which they are responsible.
With the payroll mess continuing, and the unprecedented cuts to hours Safeway members have been forced to cope with, it’s not surprising that frustration levels appear to be at an all-time high in the stores.
