UFCW 1518 Health & Safety Meetings Coming Soon
February 02, 2010
UFCW 1518 Health & Safety roundtable meetings will be starting up soon with the launch of Health & Safety Committee Guides for all UFCW 1518 Health & Safety Worker Co-chairs and Worker Representatives.
Worker Representatives serve on Health & Safety committees to help members, and to ensure the employer complies with all Health & Safety requirements. Worker Representatives are selected on the committee by the union, and the committee is co-chaired by a Worker Representative and an Employer Representative.
Please note that all UFCW 1518 Worker Representatives and Co-chairs will be required to participate in this important Health & Safety education training. The roundtables and seminars will be scheduled monthly, and will cover all regions. The Union will arrange for members to receive time off and cover wages during these sessions.
The union seminars are in addition to your right to one day paid education leave to take WorkSafeBC approved H&S courses. The one day paid education leave is a right for all committee members under the Workers Compensation Act. The employer must pay all reasonable costs of tuition, travel, and days wages to attend.
We recommend you take one of several courses offered through the BC Federation of Labour Health & Safety Education Centre. These courses are all approved by WorkSafeBC.

Once dates have been confirmed for the UFCW 1518 Health & Safety meetings, this information will be posted on the union’s website. Stay tuned!
