New Cooper’s Contract Implementation Meeting Today
February 05, 2010
UFCW 1518 is meeting today with Overwaitea senior management to discuss the implementation of the new Cooper’s Collective Agreement.
Scheduling audit, cross-training, career education, job postings and vacation issues will be discussed at the meeting.
Scheduling audits will be discussed because stores haven’t been scheduling properly and some want to book single-day vacations.
Cross-training is something new in the Cooper’s contract that allows members to pick up more hours. Since this is a new process, it needs to be discussed before implementation.
The career education program has been implemented in some Cooper’s stores without the union’s approval. This program allows a student to work in a store and job shadow.
Job posting discussions will involve whether the posting should go up by group or by classification as there are differing views on this.
Finally, there will be a discussion on vacation issues such as vacation selection and excessive vacation banks.
The union will keep Coopers members updated on decisions regarding these aspects of the Collective Agreement.
