February 13, 2010
Twelve-year UFCW 1518 member Alex Warner is one of the lucky few to be selected as an Olympic torch bearer.
“I’m honored to run with the torch,” said Alex. “It’s one of those once in a lifetime opportunities.”
Alex, who works as a Service Clerk at Safeway #140 in North Vancouver, was nominated by some of his co-workers to be one of the Olympic torch runners.
“I never expected this to happen in my lifetime,” said Alex. “I’m so honoured to be a Canadian involved in this event.”
Alex watches the Olympics on TV every year and especially enjoys watching hockey.
He also skis every Thursday and Saturday with a team for people with disabilities called the Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports. Alex has been on the team for 12 years and has made a number of friends through it.
In addition, Alex is involved in his store’s Health & Safety Committee, and has been since he was asked to take on this role three years ago.
“I’m excited my family and co-workers are coming to watch me run with the torch,” said Alex.
