UFCW 1518 and Overwaitea Work to Achieve Positive Workplace

The Union and Overwaitea Foods Group have agreed to work together in a Joint Diversity and Training Trust established in 2008. The vision is to achieve a positive and respectful work environment that reflects the diversity in our communities while allowing members to realize their true potential.

The Trust will create and launch initiatives to help promote diversity, trust and awareness that will benefit members. They will focus on principles such as human dignity and help members to be open to different ideas and each other.

To support diversity in the workplace, their first step has been to create a Joint Diversity and Training Initiative which will involve members.  

The Trusts objectives are listed as follows: 

1. To build long-term, genuine relationships within communities that offer mutual benefits and opportunities. 
2. To ensure our workplaces are reflective of the communities we serve by increasing the number of women and people of colour/racialized people in all positions including leadership positions.
3. To ensure our workplace culture encompasses mutual respect and focuses on the fundamental principles of human dignity; helping people to be open to ideas and to each other.
4. To ensure that training and development initiatives positively impact results and help us achieve our vision.
