Safeway Members: download your Request Form (Peoplesoft inquiry) here!
March 16, 2010
Dear Safeway Member:
It has come to the Union’s attention that some Safeway members believe when they find mistakes on their paystub, they have to provide proof before Safeway will correct those mistakes.
This is not true.
When you believe Safeway has made a mistake, (for example, if you have not been properly paid, or your ATO and/or Sick Time accrual is not correct), you are not required to ‘prove’ to Safeway how they made the mistake.
It is Safeway’s responsibility to fix their errors, not yours!
If you believe Safeway has made an error with:
- your ATOs/Sick Time accruals;
- Sick Time payout;
- wage rate or payment of wages;
- or ANY OTHER payroll issue directly affecting you, then here’s what to do…
1. Request that Safeway provide you with a written breakdown accompanied by a detailed explanation of how and why Safeway has calculated these items. You have the right to make this request under the Settlement Agreement between UFCW 1518 and Safeway over Safeway’s PeopleSoft payroll mess.
2. To make this process easier for you, the Union has created a blank Request Form. If you have questions or concerns about a payroll issue, just:
a) download and print the Request Form or pick up at your store (Request Forms will be distributed shortly) ;
b) check off the box beside the relevant payroll issue(s);
c) sign/print your name;
d) fill in the date;
e) make a copy to keep for yourself/your Union Representative;
f) give the completed document to your Store Manager.
3. Safeway is required to review and address any substantiated claim, provide you with a written breakdown, as well as a detailed explanation of how and why the Peoplesoft payroll program arrived at the number they did, within a reasonable time frame from the time the request is made.
It is very important that when you decide to request a review, it is vital you keep a copy of the request, and send or give it to your Union Representative. This will allow your Union Representative to stay on top of these issues and provide you with any follow-up which may be necessary to properly resolve your concern.
Remember, everyone benefits from a strong and active Union. If you have any concerns, please feel free to talk with your Shop Steward or Union Representative!
Sincerely, and in solidarity,
Ivan Limpright
President, UFCW Local 1518
