Health Care Members! You MUST register yourself to new Health Worker Registry
April 08, 2010
The union has been advised some Health Care sector members believe their Health Care agency/employer would register them to the Health Worker Registry.
Not true!
The health authority is only reporting to the Registry the names of their employees, and is not registering them.
If you are a Health Care sector member, you MUST register on your own, as no one has the authority to register you.
This is your sole responsibility, and the deadline for registration is April 28, 2010.
Please click here for information about how to register, and more information about the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
The new BC Care Aid and Community Health Worker Registry will set in place a standard of training for new graduating Community Health Workers. As importantly, the Registry will ensure a fair process for investigating allegations of abuse against CHW’s.
The Union insisted on being part of the development of the Registry to make sure the government acted in a fair manner in setting certification requirements, and more importantly, in making sure any investigative process brought on by allegations of client/patient abuse against a member were conducted thoroughly, openly and with fairness.
“The setting of a standardized, province wide curriculum for training CHW’s recognizes the incredibly valuable contribution our members making in meeting the care and health needs of the elderly and infirm citizens in our communities,” said UFCW Local 1518 President Ivan Limpright.
While allegations of patient abuse against Community Health Care workers are rare it is critically important that our members know there is a fair and transparent process through which they can defend themselves against false allegations.
