Port Alberni Coop members ratify new contract

UFCW 1518 members at the Port Alberni Coop voted to accept terms for a new collective agreement at a union meeting last night in Port Alberni.

Highlights of the new deal include:

• across the board wage increases for all members of 2%, 2%, and 2% in each year of the contract;
• new contract language on harassment, Duty to Accommodate, and Requested time off;
• a safety boot allowance;
• improvements to the educational leave provision;
• option to take a half hour meal period.

In addition the employer has agreed to establish a joint labour-management committee.

The new contract is in effect for three years, expiring December 29, 2012.
