Health Care-CSSEA Members Bargaining Update
June 10, 2010
The Union Bargaining Committee tasked with negotiating a new collective agreement for UFCW 1518 members who are Community Social Service workers met twice during the week of June 7th with the employers’ group (Community Social Services Employers' Association, or CSSEA).
The parties exchanged responses to the proposals tabled in late May, with CSSEA offering no monetary gains and insisting it is being held to the B.C. Liberal government’s net ‘zero’ financial mandate.
The Union Bargaining Committee has not yet responded to the employers’ request that we remove all monetary proposals from the table. We are also concerned about the employers’ availability for bargaining.
Seven more dates have been set aside in June for negotiations.
The Community Social Services Union Bargaining Association bargains on behalf of 15,000 unionized community-based social services workers in B.C., including UFCW 1518 Social Services Sector Members.
Report any proposed changes to your program or worksite to your union representative. Also, report any rumors of changes or restructuring. If you have any questions about bargaining, please contact your union representative or Teresa Cairns.
Sticking with a paycheque for life!
By now, you should have received a 'Welcome' package confirming your enrolment in the Municipal Pension Plan. Check to ensure you have named a beneficiary, either your spouse, estate or another person.
Members who declined to enrol in the pension plan can change their mind at any time. Simply inform your employer. Casual and part-time employees are eligible to enrol in the pension plan in most cases.
The union is strongly encouraging members to stick with the pension plan – a paycheque for life!
