Pharmacy Tech legislation expected soon

June 21, 2010

UFCW 1518 members working as Pharmacy Technicians for Safeway have many questions about how regulatory changes could impact their jobs.

With new regulations governing the certification and licensing of Pharmacy Technicians coming soon, the union plans to meet with Safeway and discuss the effects of the regulations once they are implemented and the union and company have had a chance to review them.

Safeway and the union have agreed to meet and discuss the new regulations and their impact on Pharmacy technicians as per Letter of Understanding #9 in the Safeway collective agreement.

“Many Pharmacy Technicians have gone to great expense and trouble to not only obtain their credentials to be certified, but to ensure they are going to be able to meet future requirements of their profession too,” says Ivan Limpright, President of UFCW 1518.

“When the new regulations come into effect, we will finally be able to sit down with Safeway to figure out exactly what the regulations governing Pharmacy Technicians will mean to their employment,” he says.
