Safeway Special Job Transfer Program: Info for union members
June 25, 2010
There has been much discussion about the Special Job Transfer program for Safeway members, and how it will be implemented.
Members who had 4000+ career hours worked at the date of ratification of the current collective agreement (August 2008) have been inquiring about their ability to access the Special Job Transfer.
The union recommends that any members with 4000+ hours worked who are interested in positions available through the Special Job Transfer program apply for those positions.
The union has already filed a grievance in April on behalf of members with 4000+ hours worked over their right to transfer to Grid A. Depending on the arbitrator’s ruling in this case, it may be advantageous for members to make their intention known if you are interested in one of the Special Job Transfer positions.
While Safeway is responsible for implementing the program, the parties agreed at bargaining to reserve the right to micromanage any problems that may arise.
