Health Care Members: Community Social Services Negotiations Update...
July 05, 2010
The BC government could be dealing with labour unrest in the fall as talks with the Community Social Service Employers Association and a number of unions failed to make much progress last week. The Union Bargaining Association had hoped to make substantial progress during negotiations last week. In bargaining to date, there has been no significant movement on either monetary or non-monetary issues.
The Union Bargaining Association had expected employers to be willing to move on significant language issues that would enhance member employment security and improve their work lives. The Union Bargaining Association also expected to see some movement on monetary issues. This did not occur.
Further negotiations will be put off until the fall, and at that time members could decide on possible job action.
The CSSBA bargains on behalf of 15,000 unionized community-based social services workers in B.C., including UFCW 1518 Social Services Sector Members.
