Crime Prevention – Not Your Job
July 20, 2010
It is NOT your job, nor your obligation, to prevent crime.
It is your job to ensure you do not get in harms way. It is your obligation to keep yourself as safe as possible while working.
If you feel unsafe at work, remind your employer of their responsibility to you.
“Safeway recognizes its obligation to take all reasonable actions to provide a safe and healthy workplace for all persons working in or using its facilities.” -Canada Safeway Ltd. Policies & Working Rules Booklet
The risks associated with crime have the potential to be extremely dangerous for everyone involved, including bystanders.
Safeway’s No Chase policy is important for all members to remember.
“…for the safety of all concerned, the Company’s policy on a fleeing suspect is NO CHASE...” -Canada Safeway Ltd. Policies & Working Rules Booklet
Safety is not only a personal responsibility, it is a shared responsibility. Discuss Health and Safety policies, and make sure you and your co-workers know them, and abide by them. Please refer anyone that disagrees with this information to review Safeway’s Policy & Rule Booklet.
Safety is your right.
