Health Care Members: Group Grievances Filed Over Criminal Record Check Costs

August 17, 2010

UFCW 1518 had previously filed group grievances on behalf of Community Health Worker members working within the Fraser Health Authority and the Interior Health Authority. These grievances were filed due to the employers’ resistance in covering the cost of required Criminal Record Checks, as well as the employer wanting to deduct the monies from employees pay once every 5 years to cover the cost of the Criminal Record Check.

In addition to the grievances filed by your union, the Community Bargaining Association has now filed a policy grievance with the Health Employers Association of British Columbia (HEABC) that will cover all outstanding grievances on this matter and other issues in the Health Authorities where grievances had not yet been filed.

While waiting for this grievance to be processed members still need to have their Criminal Record Check completed. To avoid any future complications with reimbursements, it’s important that members keep their receipt for the Criminal Record Check.

Further information on this issue will be posted when it’s available to ensure that all members are aware of any developments.
