COVID-19 Special Update (March 16): Know Your Rights at Work

Information about COVID-19 is changing rapidly and there are many questions and concerns about the virus and government measures. In the midst of this pandemic, we want to take a minute to remind you that we are here for you. We also want to thank all our members who are working on the front lines to ensure the public has the supplies and support they need during this challenging time.

As your union, we are keeping employers accountable to adhere to public health officials’ recommendations and make your safety a priority at work. If you believe your employer is not doing enough to keep you protected in the workplace or have any other concerns relating battling COVID-19 at work, this is what you should do:

  1. Get informed:
    If you have questions about the virus or measures that may be applicable to your workplace, please visit the following reliable sites:

    WorkSafeBC: COVID-19 & the workplace
    BC Government – Pandemic Preparedness
  2. Talk to your manager or shop steward:
    If your questions/concerns are beyond the scope of the sites listed above please be sure to make your shop steward or manager your first point of contact. As this is an evolving situation, it is possible they already have an answer to your concern.
  3. Contact us:
    If after reaching out to your shop steward or manager, your concern is not resolved or addressed within a reasonable time please get in touch with us at reception@ufcw1518.com or 1.800.661.3708 and your request will be redirected to your union representative.

During this challenging time it is important to remain calm and follow public health officials’ guidelines to stay safe. We’re here to advocate for your well-being, as we have always been.
